I’ve been accumulating Douglas gift cards for a while because while I like perfume and make-up, buying either is not high enough on my priority list to actually make time for a shopping trip. Today however, I found myself with some time to kill at the mall, so I quickly checked if my beauty guru Jessica (who is also an expert on all sorts of trashed-up food) has anything to recommend. Sure enough, my store carried soap & glory products which she had raved about, so I bought a few things. Happy shower times ahead!

Today’s tune: Just a kiss, by Lady Antebellum
(yyyyeah, I have questionable taste in music)

Hi! Remember me? I’m supposed to post pictures on a daily basis but somehow February flew right by me. Work was hectic and crazy and disappointing and a little depressing. Private things were fun and exciting and blissful and definitely interesting. I took a few photos here and there, but I don’t like to think up memories from 10+ days ago. So I figured I’d use this entry as a largely uncommented pic dumb and start fresh in March – this time hopefully more in time. ;)

So this was February.

There’s a biannual blood drive on campus and after being refused last time (low iron levels hmphhhhh), I went to give blood today. Sad fact: If you are a man who sleeps with men (or a woman who has slept with a man who sleeps with men), you are encouraged – along with drug addicts, sex workers and their clients, tattoo artists – to “defer” your donation. Let’s hope for change.

It’s not a secret I sorta kinda like Oreos. I’m also a big fan of supermarkets in other countries. I found these strawberry-flavored Oreos in Nepal and there was no way I’d not bring them home. (Your average German supermarket sells only the regular kind and maybe chocolate cream Oreos, if you’re lucky.)
I finally opened the package today and they were not terrible. The smell is very chemical and the flavor is very standard artificial strawberry but that was exactly  I expected of them, so they did their job. ;)

I swear one of these days I’ll stop posting home improvement updates. Today is not that day. The bathroom was the first room to have all of the bare bones, but we’ve put off everything that was not absolutely necessary because drilling into tiles is a bitch. We finally put up a lamp over the sink which is absolutely not aligned with anything (not even the sink), but we’re still mighty proud of it.

20150201_225351 I spent a lot of time researching fun events in Berlin. I’m a huge fan of  storytelling events but they don’t seem to be a big thing around here. (Poetry slams have become very popular in Germany in the past years, but that’s not really my cup of tea.)
I went to Campfire storytelling which  features (semi-)established comedians telling funny (if not necessarily true) stories. The crowd was small and the show didn’t start until 10 pm (the bar had scheduled their weekly Tatort screening for the same time #thingsGermanslove), but I’m sure I’ll be back for the next event.

2015-01-31 22.35.45 I gave my dad a home-brewing kit for Christmas which he got very excited about. We had the results of the first round today – excellent stuff!
Home-brewing and craft beer is really not a thing in Germany  (thank you, Reinheitsgebot), so I always enjoy when I can get my hands on something that tastes a little different.
