(Oh boy – not exactly the most appetizing picture.)

Have I told you guys about the amazing canteen on campus? It’s got four different lunch options every day (2 vegetarian, 2 meat/fish dishes), in addition to cakes, sandwiches, a salad bar, pizza, burgers, and many many more things. And it’s all comparatively cheap, too. There’s always at least three people from our lab who go for lunch together. The food tends to confuse the non-German lab mates – up there we have a yeast dumpling with poppyseed and sugar in vanilla sauce. For lunch. Yep. Yum!

I know, I know. I’ve been saying that the one thing I really miss about Germany is German bread. And here I am baking my own. While there is a supermarket on my way home, I have to say that I miss the convenience of Albert Heijn. So yeah, this bread was nothing to write home about, but it fed me. Mission accomplished.

I made blueberry lemon bars. Oh man. Never mind that my bars don’t really resemble the ones in Tracey’s pictures, they were deliiiiicious. Good thing most of them went straight into the freezer, I don’t think should be eating more than two (or three, or five) of these guys per day.

My parents came to visit me! :) After dinner at Noidue (excellent food, slow but friendly service), we wanted to stop by the “American country bar” close to my place. Unfortunately, it’s under construction, so we went to the place right next to it, which, I suppose, caters to a similar crowd? I’m still baffled by the tacky decoration.

Ever since the first apartment viewing, I’ve been in love with my street. I can be in the city center in 5 minutes, but the neighborhood itself is incredibly pretty. There are lots of one-way streets and culs-de-sac, turning it into a very quiet place to live.

Having lent my microphone to my office mate the previous night, I was greeted by this post-it. Joao‘s been learning German and he’s very eager to practice his new skills. We barely get to see each other during the day but usually hang out at the office in the evening.

Look at that, I’m online again! I was so overwhelmed with the sudden pressure to choose a name that this was all I could come up with. Besides entenhausen (the German name for Duckburg), my neighbors weren’t a whole lot more creative, it seems. TV and youtube, here I commmmmmmeeeee!
