My first Tag der deutschen Einheit back in Germany was extremely uneventful. I’m sure there was stuff happening in Berlin, but I just couldn’t be bothered to leave the house. I did, however, make a dent in the mess in my apartment and rewarded myself with one of the things you really cannot get abroad. Federweißer (‘feather white one’) is new wine which is bottled when it is essentially still grape juice. You can only buy it in September and October (aren’t all things better when you can only get them for a limited amount of time? Except for (white) asparagus, that stuff is vile, no matter when.) and the later you buy it, the more it will taste like white wine. It’s sold in bottles that won’t close completely so as to keep the fermentation going in your fridge. As I like sweet wines, I hurried to finish this bottle in two days. (Yep. That’s why.) Great stuff!
