I gave my mom a tajine for Christmas, so we used it today for the first time. Soooo much good food!

I met up with a friend from high school. We hadn’t seen each other in almost 10 years and I had a great time catching up. She brought me cute little cardboard Christmas trees! :)

I had almost forgotten about Bratäpfel! Oh boy! We filled these boys with marzipan, rum raisins, butter, calvados, and almonds. Good stuff! (I need to work on my carving skills, there’s soooo much more potential space for filling that’s taken up by, well, apple.)

More food! Along with fondue, raclette is a rather popular thing to eat for Germans around Christmas and New Year’s. You’d think that after days (and, let’s be honest, weeks) of cookies and mulled wine and duck/goose/turkey, we’d shy away from copious amounts of cheese, but… no.
(Sorry for the crappy pic, but I got super excited about the pear underneath all that cheese, so I was in a hurry.)

Christmas day, woohoo! While we have pasta salad and sausages for Christmas Eve, Christmas day is when the feasting happens. My task this year was to fold napkins. Oh boy. (The pressure, the PRESSURE!)
Also, I have a thing for cute and funny salt shakers. (Ahum. I might own about 10. Maybe.) At least now I know that this weakness is hereditary.

Christmas Eve! The village where my parents live (and where I grew up) has its own church but my dad sings in a choir in Schwerin, so that’s where we went in the afternoon. It’s a cute little church, very modest (as Protestant churches tend to be), rather modern and simple.

Many moons ago, when I was still a wee bat, we would only put up the Christmas day on Christmas Eve and decorate it together. These days, my parents do it a little earlier but it’s still really pretty.
