Look, it’s the first snow of the 2013/2014 winter in Potsdam! Granted, it’s not a whole lot, but given the current temperatures, the snow will stay with us for a while. (What you see there is the north end of campus. The orange building is the canteen, but I have no clue what’s in the left building. Or if it is even still in use.)

I subscribed to a number of those second hand / rummage sale kind of groups on Facebook. In one of them, a girl was giving away a stevia plant. While I like pretty flowers just fine, I’m a sucker for plants with an actual purpose, so of course I had to jump for this one to green up our office. (Also, it turns out that the girl is actually one of our student assistants (boy, seems like I’m just as bad with names as I am with faces).) I’m afraid that the poor plant is dead now, but I’ll give it a few more days.

Just before Christmas, I went to the hairdresser (I’ve been going to the same salon for the past 13 years) and lost quite a bit of hair. The new cut forced me to purchase a hair clipper or the first time in my life, so what you see there is the outcome of its first use. Sorry for the gross pic.

I met up with my paranymphs to talk about my defense. Okay, and to drink mojitos and eat lots of tapas. La Cubanita encourages you to leave a message on their walls… so we did.

I went to Nijmegen which – of course – meant dinner with one of my best friends! These Chinese dumplings (spring onion and chicken) were as delicious as they look! :)

I went to see Only Lovers Left Alive with two co-workers. (Feel free to skip the movie. Ugh.) Hackesche Höfe looks like a really pretty area – I’ll need to come back at some point when the weather is better.

The first thing most Germans think of when they hear Potsdam is the film studio located in Babelsberg. I hadn’t set foot in this part of town since moving here (separated by the Havel from the rest of the city, Babelsbergers don’t really consider themselves Potsdamers, though they’re definitely part of the city), but I went this morning to visit a participant. I should definitely come back and see the film studios when it’s warmer.
