The food world is over cronuts by now, right? So it’s about time that they make their way to Germany – to a self-serve bakery at Berlin-Spandau station, to be precise. Whaaaaat? I was incredibly tempted to get one but I’m not big on either donuts or croissants, so that seemed like a waste.

(Later, I would get on a train that I thought would get me to Berlin main station but was west-bound instead. Then again, I had never been to Stendal (the next possible stop for me), so why not check out what’s going on at their station on a Sunday evening?)

There are times when I feel lame for drinking a maitai wherever I go. (Second favorite signature drink: whiskey sour) And then sometimes the bar will serve me some funky take on it, like Amrit did with this lit lime and I know that I should just keep ordering maitais because they’re never the same.

And I baked brownies for Valentine’s Day as I’ve done for the past 4 years. I’m not entirely sure how I managed to burn the top but… shrug. They were still really delicious (if a bit smokey).

I baked cheesecake for my office mate’s birthday because he’s cool. I’m doing my best to get rid of this German tradition according to which the birthday girl/boy is expected to bring their own cake.

I spent the evening stuffing my face with mochi. “Asian” food (pretend there is such a thing, will you?) is much harder to get here, so this was a rare treat.

More mail from the Dutch tax office. They basically told me that they discovered that I had only applied for health insurance discounts at some point mid-2012. And didn’t I want to get the rest of the money for 2012? Of course I do. Thanks, Dutch government!
