While I’m not following any team in particular at the moment, I love me a good game of whatever team sport is hip wherever I go. In my hometown, that’s usually handball or volleyball. My mom had tickets to a volleyball Bundesliga game, so we went and watched the Schweriner SC girls (yellow) win against Potsdam. Well done, girls!

I mentioned yesterday that I try to avoid going through the city by bike. Too many people and tram rails are just two tiny reasons for this. The best reason is this amazing park that lies between work and my place. When I tell people where I live in Potsdam (“West of the Havel, city center”) I usually forget to mention that I live right next to Sansscouci Park. It’s soooo beautiful! (Unfortunately the park closes by sunset (and it’s not really clear to anyone when exactly that is) and if you’re not out by then, you might be able to climb the fence… but what about your bike? So I only ever go through here in the morning and if I leave work at a reasonable hour. I can’t wait for summer!)

I took an unusual route to work to deliver some information brochures about my study to old people’s homes (I try to avoid going through the city because there are no bike paths and way too many tram rails.) I came across Waschbar which I had heard about several times but never knew where it’s located. It’s a laundromat and a hipster-ish cafe/bar. I will have to go there one of these days and see what all the rave is about.

Last week, the Penultimate Frisbees won the pubquiz jackpot! Weeeeeee! As there was no quiz this week, we went out for sushi to spend the money. I’m so used to all-you-can-eat(ish) sushi places, so it was a bit of a challenge to figure out what people wanted to eat – kudos to the friendly staff at My Keng for being so patient. The food and the drinks were delicious!

Look, it’s the first snow of the 2013/2014 winter in Potsdam! Granted, it’s not a whole lot, but given the current temperatures, the snow will stay with us for a while. (What you see there is the north end of campus. The orange building is the canteen, but I have no clue what’s in the left building. Or if it is even still in use.)

The first thing most Germans think of when they hear Potsdam is the film studio located in Babelsberg. I hadn’t set foot in this part of town since moving here (separated by the Havel from the rest of the city, Babelsbergers don’t really consider themselves Potsdamers, though they’re definitely part of the city), but I went this morning to visit a participant. I should definitely come back and see the film studios when it’s warmer.

Oh man, what a depressing 100th post. ;)

I left the office laaaate, though I managed to get home before midnight (which is something I’d like to keep up for this job. Yes? Please?). The bus system is super convenient, though. At night, there’s a night bus every hour and it stops on campus as well as just about 10 minutes from my house. I suppose I could always bike, but it’s nice to know that there are other options.
